Have A Go Day
Following the heavy rain last year Have A Go Day has become “Have A Go Month.” Auckland Bowls has encouraged clubs to run several events throughout October (and beyond) and the response has been fantastic with 25 clubs running over 70 events throughout the month.
The first Have A Go events of 2018 are being held at Blockhouse Bay Bowls & Waiheke Bowling Club who both have events this coming Sunday (30th September) and it seems that the weather gods are shining on us with good weather forecast across Auckland for the first weekend in quite a while!
Why change? There are many advantages of holding multiple events. In addition to mitigating the risk of inclement weather opening up the event for the whole month has allowed clubs to run events on dates that best suit the club and offers potential players the opportunity to try the sport more than once or to try out different clubs.
By holding events throughout the month also enables Auckland Bowls to promote for a longer period of time which helps raise awareness of the sport as we head into the new season. The promotional effort is well underway and you may already have seen advertisements in the local regional press, Neighbourly, Facebook and Instagram for Have A Go events. We have also been busy over the past couple of months promoting bowls clubs as venues for corporate hospitality, parties and Christmas functions. All of this promotion has been successful in driving a huge increase of traffic to the “Play Bowls” Website that contains details of all Have A Go events and club facilities for hire.
Lets hope we get a good turnout to all Have A Go events. You can help by sharing any advertisements you see on social media amongst your own friends…or better still why not invite one of your non bowling friends along to Have A Go!
