winter interclub qualifying done and dusted

The final qualifying round of the Winter Interclub for 2010-2011 has produced heartbreak for some clubs.

Round five saw Howick Blue continue their charge towards glory with another three straight wins to place them as hot favourite for the title.

Glendowie only managed one win on Sunday to be overtaken into second place by a late run from Bucklands Beach. Playing Papatoetoe RSA Hotshots on Sunday Bucklands Beach pulled through with two wins to grab second place over Glendowie by two points.

In Section 2 Pakuranga would have been waiting the results from other games with bated breath as they stumbled to have only one win the final round. To their relief Pt Chevalier 2 had an even worse day at the office and only managed one draw from the three games of the round while Carlton Cornwall Gold, having been in third place with 14 points last week pulled off two wins and a draw to edge out Pt Chevalier 2 into third spot.

Henderson and Apex Advice Onehunga cemented their positions at the top of Section 3 although, while Henderson posted three straight wins, Onehunga could only manage one win and had to rely on Park 2 not managing to get their third win yesterday. Onehunga has held out Park 2 by one slim point to remain in second place.

Section 4 has seen Carlton Cornwall Blue pipped at the post by Bridge Park for second place. It was always going to be tough with the top of the table clash coming in the last round and Hillsboro have come out the victors with two wins to Carlton Cornwall Blue’s one win. The final qualifiers from this section are Hillsboro on 22 points and Bridge Park, who also secured two wins on Sunday against East Tamaki Enigmas, on 18 points.

Full results can be seen in related documents on the right.

The quarterfinals, semi finals and finals will all be played at Bridge Park Bowling Club on Sunday 1st August commencing at the earlier time of 9.30am.

In the quarterfinals Hillsboro will battle it out with Bucklands Beach, Pakuranga with Apex Advice Onehunga, Howick Blue against Carlton Cornwall Gold and Bridge Park will have the home advantage against Henderson.

Auckland Bowls wishes all sides the best for the post section rounds.
