Men’s 1-8 Year Final:
The Final between Scott Harrison, Artem Chesnokov, Richard Seifert (Balmoral) and David Ball, Kevin Beasley, Dean Edge (Mt Wellington) was a real mixed bag. Balmoral looked strong winning the first 3 ends and leading right up to the 14th end. Mt Wellington showed their resilience, didn’t lose their cool and came v]back to tie the game up 13-13 in the 14th end. But in the 15th end Mt Wellington dropped a 4 which proved to be a turning point, from here Balmoral charged ahead and won the game 20-14. Great final!
Men’s 1-8 Year Triples Semi Finals:
Scott Harrison, Artem Chesnokov, Richard Seifert (Balmoral) BT Padric Matich, Jim Gray, Nathan Hututini (Mt Albert) 26-10. Balmoral dominated this semi final, Mt Albert struggled to get a look in but kept pushing forward. A 4 in the 3rd end and another in the 5th end and yet another in the 10th end for Balmoral really put them strongly in front which Mt Albert could not compete with. Balmoral winning 26-10.
David Ball, Kevin Beasley, Dean Edge (Mt Wellington) played a very strong semi final also against Richard Kempthorne, Roger Johnston, Mark Posa (St Heliers). St Heliers started the scoring but the game was tied up in the 5th end 3-3. Both teams fought it out and it was all tied up again in the 11th end 8-8 but from here Mt Wellington charged ahead and St Heliers didn’t manage to win another end, Mt Wellington winning 7 consecutive ends and the game 19-8.
Men’s 1-8 Year Triples Quarter Finals:

Richard Kempthorne, Roger Johnston, Mark Posa (St Heliers) BT Tony Mitchinson, Don Newitt, Lex Calder (Howick) 19-15
David Ball, Kevin Beasley, Dean Edge (Mt Wellington) BT Karl Henshall, Bruce Walters, William Lee (New Lynn) 22-9
Women’s 1-8 Year Final:
This was a great final between Ling Qu, Sheila Putu, Jane Field (St Heliers) and Lesley McLinden, Elizabeth George-Enua, Leeane Poulson (Mangere). St Heliers were first up on the scoreboard winning the first 3 ends giving them the 4-0 lead in the 3rd end. In the 4th end Mangere played an excellent end and picked up a 3. Both teams played some very skilled bowls but it was St Heliers that consistently picked up 1 or 2 each end. The scoreboard wasn’t a good indication of the excellent bowls that were played. St Heliers walked away with the title of Women’s 1-8 Year Triples Champions for 2017-2018.
Women’s 1-8 Year Triples Semi Finals:
Lesley McLinden, Elizabeth George-Enua, Leeane Poulson (Mangere) BT Marika Knez, Tina Jerrom, Shona Hewitt (Balmoral) 18-14. This was a great Semi Final with Mangere making a come back from 7-1 down in the 5th end to take the lead over Balmoral in the 10th end 12-7. In the 15th end Balmoral managed to tie the game up 13-13 but couldn’t quite get the lead back. Mangere winning 18-14 for their spot in the Final.
Ling Qu, Sheila Putu, Jane Field (St Heliers) BT Chelsea Farley, Gail Clark Tessa Farley (Balmoral) 15-12. Another excellent Semi Final. This game could have gone either way right up to the final end. They were all tied up in the 7th end 4-4, again in the 10th end 6-6, and again in the 14th end 10-10, from here St Heliers took the lead and held onto it to win the game 15-12. Great game ladies!
