Auckland Men’s Singles and Women’s Triples

Event News, News

Again, blustery conditions for today’s post-section in the Auckland Men’s Singles and Women’s Triples

The Women’s Triples saw last year’s Champs Allison Rennie, Jill Fraser and Clara Bowman have a bye in the first round and go out in the second to the Pt Chevalier Pirates – Angela Temple, Chrissie Pegg and Jenny Stockford. The Men’s Singles last year’s Champ Petar Sain going down to Club mate Len Bilicich 21-12, meaning both Titles will go to new champs this season.

In the first Semi-Finals in the Women’s Triples it was an all Pt Chevalier affair with Angela Temple, Chrissie Pegg and Jenny Stockford vs Jo McKenna, Sue Scott and Gail Clark. Angela Temple, Chrissie Pegg and Jenny Stockford taking the match 18-14. The second semi saw Maria Smith, Jaime Delaney and Kirsty Hill Onehunga & Districts take on Tere Tuaiti, Gale Ward and Linda Halton this was a real battle, neck-and-neck all the way – on the 17th end Districts took a three and went to 16, but the Royal Oak team answered  with a three next end tying it up at 16 a piece – A great shot by Tere Tuaiti in the extra end saw Royal Oak take team take the second spot in the final 17-16.

Awesome final between two great teams. Angela Temple, Chrissie Pegg and Jenny Stockford – Pt Chevalier vs Tere Tuaiti, Gale Ward and Linda Halton – Royal Oak. The first three ends went Pt Chevaliers way with singles, but Royal Oak were quickly on the board and by the seventh end were four ahead, they kept plugging away and held the lead 12-4 in the 12th end. Pt Chevalier ramped it up and stacked on an impressive eight points to tie-up the game 12 all in the 16th end. From there the Pt Chev team went one ahead on the next end only for Royal Oak to take a one and tie it up on the 18th! All down to the last end – and it was looking like a Pt Chevalier win, only for Tuaiti to come through with a great shot and Royal Oak came away with the win. Fantastic final, really enjoyed by the spectators at Carlton Cornwall and those watching the live stream at home.

Thanks to Jill Fraser – Auckland Bowls President and Michael Feek Auckland Bowls Board Member for the great commentary. Thanks, Paul Tuckley, for once again bringing us the live -feed – Finishing up just in time for the heavens to open and a mad dash to get the equipment under shelter!
