WOMEN’S 1-8 YEAR FOURS FINAL:
Chelsea Farley, Marika Knez, Tessa Farley, Tina Jerrom (Balmoral) VS Rachael Hancock, Margarita Kelly, Rhianne Tippett, Carol Berry (New Lynn).
New Lynn came out charging in this Final, never once relinquishing their lead against Balmoral. They were 7-2 up in the 3rd end and the closest Balmoral got to them was 6-8 in the 7th end. New Lynn were just too strong today even though Balmoral played some excellent bowls they just didn’t get a look in. Congratulations Rachael Hancock, Margarita Kelly, Rhianna Tippett and Carol Berry, our new Women’s 1-8 Year Fours Champions for 2017-2018 winning 16-7. Great work!
MEN’S 1-8 YEAR FOURS FINAL:
The Final between Mae Taurua, Albie Ahmu, Ross Fraider, George Pareanga (Central) VS Richard Kempthorne, Roger Johnston, Mark Posa, David Staines (St Heliers) was a cracker! Central were first up on the scoreboard but St Heliers weren’t far behind with the game tied up 3-3 in the 4th end. Again Central start the scoring to take the lead and were up 7-3 in the 6th end. In the 11th end St Heliers had a big end to turn the game around winning a 4 and taking the lead 10-8. In the final end Central tied the game up and an extra end was played which St Heliers won with a 1, 13-12 but it was all they needed to take home the title of the Men’s 1-8 Year Fours Champions for 2017-2018! Congratulations to Richard Kempthorne, Roger Johnston, Mark Posa, David Staines from St Heliers.
MEN’S 1-8 YEAR FOURS SEMI FINALS:
Mae Taurua, Albie Ahmu, Ross Fraider, George Pareanga (Central) BT Allan Hansen, Garry Cotter, John Lambarth, Utu Vave (Royal Oak). This was a very close game with both teams playing excellent bowls. Central took the lead early and were up 8-2 in the 6th end but Royal Oak came back and the game was all tied up 9-9 in the 11th end but a well timed 4 in the 12th end gave Central their lead back 13-9 and they held onto it from here to the end of the game winning their spot into the Final 15-10.
Richard Kempthorne, Roger Johnston, Mark Posa, David Staines (St Heliers) BT Graham Farley, Paul Jerrom, Ian Hughes, Travis Engelbrecht (Balmoral). Another great Semi Final with Balmoral never holding the lead but never far off enough for St Heliers to relax. In the 8th end St Heliers were up 10-4 but by the 12th end Balmoral were only 1 point behind 11-10 but from here St Heliers managed to stop Balmoral from scoring again winning the final 3 ends for their spot into the Final 15-11.
