Remuera President Murray Lander and Auckland Bowls President Jill Fraser, officially sign the agreement supported by Gerard Hulst (Rawhiti Committee), Bruce Anderson (Chairman Auckland Bowls), Bill Johnson (Remuera), Helen Blick (Auckland Bowls Board), Graeme Brown (Remuera), Greame Scott (Auckland Bowls, Vice President).

Auckland Bowls in conjunction with the Rawhiti Fund Committee is pleased to confirm that we have reached agreement with Remuera Bowling Club to provide substantial funds for a covered green at the club.

The introduction of covered greens is a key goal of Auckland Bowls and the Rawhiti Fund.  This agreement is a significant moment as we make progress towards achieving a network of world class bowls facilities in Auckland.

The funding will be used by Remuera to erect a canopy over B Green with construction to start in early 2019once all consents have been issued by Auckland Council.

As part of the agreement, Remuera will establish an annual agreement with Auckland Bowls to maximise the use of the facility for the wider benefit of the sport, including a club Membership Growth Strategy.  The green will also be made available to Auckland Bowls for Centre play throughout the season and to other clubs as an alternative venue during inclement weather.

The Remuera Bowling Club, having invested considerable effort in obtaining resource consent and conducting a tender process for the construction of the canopy, is delighted that Auckland Bowls and the Rawhiti Fund Committee have given the project the go ahead.  “Their agreement to provide substantial funds is truly appreciated by the club” said President Murray Lander.

Auckland Bowls are excited by the opportunity afforded to us by the foresight of the Rawhiti Bowling Club members.    The Rawhiti Fund will contribute to the cost of establishing covered greens in Auckland with an allocation of up to $2.5m over the next four years.

The amount of funding for each project will be determined on a case by case basis.  Consideration will be given to the extent the chosen club(s) plan to contribute to the costs themselves; their ability to obtain other funding; and their plans to make the operation of the facility successful and sustainable.
