It was a disappointing finish for the Auckland sides at the National Intercentre held in Christchurch over the weekend. After such a positive start for both the men and women on Friday, the games did not quite go to plan on Saturday.
The Auckland women enjoyed fantastic results throughout qualifying easily topping their section, and qualifying for the quarterfinals. In what was a somewhat unlucky turn of events they were then drawn against Canterbury in the quarterfinals.
The locals proved to be very tough opposition and won the singles 25-18, the pairs: 20-15 and the fours 15-9. Canterbury then went on to win the title beating Counties Manukau in the semi final and Northland in the Final.
The Auckland men looked odds on to qualify but dropped four of their last six games to end up in a four way tie on 24 points. Unfortunately their net total of shots was not as good as the others and they ended in fifth spot.
Wellington beat Dunedin in a very close men’s final.
