Rep Round Up
It was a good weekend for the Auckland Representative Sides highlighted by the Open sides winning the Battle of the Bridge over North Harbour on Sunday. The first for a number of years.
The Auckland Men triumphed 10-4 and the women 8-6 in the Ryder Cup style format. The first round of fours saw the games split 1-1 in both the men’s and women’s section. The Auckland Men made their move in the pairs winning all four games to take a 5-1 lead into the final round of eight singles matches. This meant they needed to secure three singles wins to guarantee victory. In the end they won five of eight for a 10-4 win.
The women had a tight tussle all day and after splitting both the fours and pairs rounds the title was decided in the singles. With Linda Ralph setting the standard with a close 21-18 win over Selina Goddard, and a further four wins to Lauren Mills, Sue Curran, Karen Hema and Jenny Stockford the title went to Auckland.
Thanks to Bowls North Harbour and hosts Browns Bay Bowling Club for introducing this innovative format.
The Development and 1-5 Year Sides had to travel further north to play at Mangawhai and One Tree Point. Again it was a largely successful day for Auckland.
The Development Women and Men both had wins over Northland and North Harbour winning five of eight matches on the day. The 1-5 Men also tasted victory winning four of their six games. It was a tough day at the office for the 1-5 Year Women winning only one of their six games. However the result could have been different on another day with four of the games lost by four or less shots.
Congratulations to all involved on a successful day!
